Monday Artday: Treasure

Capt Morgan's Treasure was hid in a cave.
I had alot of fun drawing this Illustration and I feel like it turned out well...Probably my last Illustration while in Uniform, as I am retiring 1 Aug 2007... I hope I don't cry at my retirement ceremony. MSgt Morgan, USAF, 20 years 8 months 22 days

IF: Discovery

Discovery of Illustration Friday has been very motivating for me. I look forward with anticipation to every topic and the amount of satisfaction I get from participating in this group is unmeasurable. I just wanted to say thanks to each and everyone of you, because you inspire me, to be a better Illustrator.
Tech Notes: I didn't do to much drawing on this piece...all Photoshop work.

Monday Artday: Hell

My own private Hell, would be, playing poker for eternity and every hand would be Deuce-Seven. The worst hand in poker.
Tech Notes...I actually shot my hands with a digital camera to get this angle. I than sketched the assorted characters with pencil. I scanned that drawing and sketched it in Illustrator in full color. I did the background seperately and I liked it so much I decided to make the Poker Players monotone with the hell background behind them...It turned out ok, I like it.

IF: Twist 2.0

He was the King of Twist endings...Can you guess who he is? Do you remember his old Logo?

Monday Artday: Heaven

My heaven is different than yours...There's no Angels, halos and harps. Everyone has their own vision of heaven. My heaven will have a little red Mustang and open skies, long curvy roads with no traffic.
addendum - I think I'm developing a style here...a friend of mine classified it as Car Caricatures. I sketched this little coupe at 0630 this morning...I finished it in an hour before work, and before my cup of coffee.

IF:Twist

I rarely get air in my Mustang...but in my mind's eye, everyday is the "Dukes of Hazard" with potential jumps and crazy cops lurking around every corner. I got the Grey Ghost up to 120 mph the other day before I got "skert." Every time I punch the accelerator I feel the whole car TWIST from the torque like a beast pouncing on it prey. I need to slow down before I get twisted around a tree, if anything I'll save alot of money on gas...nah.

IF: Camouflage

Camouflage in military science, is the art and practice of concealment and visual deception in war. It is the means of defeating enemy observation by concealing or disguising installations, personnel, equipment, and activities.
I did this in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop...I used one of my Army Students as a model. Of course this is not the standard digital camo pattern that the Army uses now, but my own creation.
One of the most impressive yet fictional camouflage patterns was "Predator" who had active light bending camouflage like a chameleon, effectively making him invisible

Monday Artday: Mystical

I did this piece for Monday Artday...However I never submitted it, because I ran out of time. I really was intrigued by the weekly Theme: Mystical, and watched everyone's submissions and was finally formulating something...when they switched the topic. Doh!

Night-time is always mystical for me. This is a shot of the moon with my digital camera, next to my garage. Glowing flowers was actually shot during the day. And the Mystical glowing fireflies were drawn in Photoshop.

IF: Rejection

Rejection, Have you ever had your work Rejected? Or perhaps you've been rejected by a loved one? Of course that's never happened to me! Here is an Illustration of my wife...and I'm Rejecting it! Now that's Irony...All Coffee stains are digital and no bristol board was harmed in the creation of this Illustration.

IF: Suit 3.0

I'm announcing my retirement today...I will be hanging up the Woodland Camouflage and switching to suits. I have mixed emotions about what I'm going to do. I've been in the US Air Force for 20 years and 7 months and 10 days. And I loved every minute of it. My future seems so uncertain right now...and exciting. Don't tell anyone but I'm a little nervous...scared? Well I got to go talk to the Lieutenant...this 'aint going to be pretty.

IF: Suit 2.0

If your going to be a Super-Shero, you need a form fitting suit to showcase your super powers.
I used Christopher Harts Book, How to draw great looking Comic Book Women as reference. I didn't scan and trace, I just used it as a reference. Turned out nice.

IF: Suit

The last thing you want to see is somebody coming towards you in a Biohazard Suit. You know something is wrong when you see your red swollen face reflected in his/hers faceplate...I don't feel bad...I'll be alright...please...

Monday Artday: Join Us!

I did this Illustration for Monday Artday...True Story, although the guys in suits were in a hotel lobby instead of the beach.

Went to Vietnam in January and everywhere I went I heard the hospitable cry of "Join Us!" I have never been one to turn down a free beer, so I did my best in strengthening diplomatic relationships between our countries. I would raise my beer over my head and shout the traditional Vietnamese toast Yo! Yo! It was tremendous fun and I was having a blast until I looked over and saw my impatient wife tapping her foot, arms crossed.

IF: Car 4.0

The M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) is a car...IF is an accronym for infrared. THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT Just trying to give you another perspective.

Technique:

I built this scale model of a humvee, I shot it with my digital camera on the kitchen counter and than colorized it in Fireworks. Here's the raw footage on my kitchen counter...notice the italian tile backsplash which I also made :-)

IF: Car 3.0

I like this subject. Here is another out of this world car, The Mustang. In its 40-year tenure as America's favorite muscle car, Mustang has performed in more than 500 starring roles on the silver screen - more than any other automobile. Click Here For a complete lists of movies and Mustangs.

IF: Car 2.0

Thought I would do something else. This is me and Christopher and the Cub Scout's Pinewood Derby. We would win our packs race but when we went to regionals we got beat like a red-headed stepchild. It was a Father/Son moment I won't forget.

IF: Car

This is the Grey Ghost, she is a 2006 Ford Mustang GT with 300hp. I love my Mustang. I've only had her up to 110mph but I know she's got plenty more. It's a good thing I love my mustang because my commute is usually two to three hours a day. damn! I need a closer job! I tweaked the perspective a bit to give it a more aggressive stance. My wife says its my midlife crisis car which is ridiculous...I drove a minivan for ten years before this one, I think I deserve it.

Monday Artday: Laugh

I submitted to Monday Artday, the topic was laugh. This is a small cropped portion of the final Illo. This is what i had to say about it.

I imagine these guys are in a band and they like to joke around and party alot. The name of the band is Laughing Gas! I don't know why they are all green, but they make me laugh.

IF: Sign

What's your Sign? I don't believe in astrology, but alot of people do. If you think about it astrology was our ancestors first attempt at design and understanding the unkown. Can you guess which one this is?

Man...I don't know what this is.

  1. Dark man was drawn in Fireworks
  2. Treasuremap was also drawn in Fireworks
  3. Of course Citrus Redux was my first Firework project submitted to Illustration Friday
  4. Rhino was a pencil sketch
  5. Dino was manipulated Digital Image...it wasn't a real dinosaur
  6. All of these were created in MAY 2007
  7. JMO is one of my many aliases

IF: Citrus Redux

Citrus Redux is my first attempt at Macromedia Fireworks. And I drew this without a mouse, or tablet...just my finger on a laptop...which should explain the simplicity of the illo. I do like fireworks it is like a combination of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Band of Brothers

My Name is Jeff and yes, I am a fine scale modeler. I built this about two years ago. Inspired by the Hit Mini-series Band of Brothers, I decided to build a diorama. This is my work. I put alot of research and detailed painting into this project and it was a joy to build. I scratch built the inside of the house, and combined various elements to tell a story. It turned out so good I entered it into a modeling Contest in Fairfax, VA. I lost. Anyway it was sitting in the basement gathering dust and I wanted to share it with everyone. I consider this Art...what do you think?

Lemonade stand, Pirates with Scurvy, Humanade Stand...Orange Groves, Orange Bowl.
Orange you glad I'm done! I drew this on my lunchbreak...Thanks for the ideas guys.

IF: Neighbors 2.0

They really do. My neighbors had a ten foot fence in back of our house built...the Great Wall.
Haven't seen him since.

IF: Neighbor

A good neighbor shovels snow for his neighbor. This weeks Illustration Friday topic was neighbor and all I could think about was how Old Man "Corrigan" shovels the sidewalk for everyone. He's a good neighbor. Good Neighbors are hard to find. I could really illustrate some bad neighbors... maybe I'll do another Illo!

IF: Remember

This week the topic for Illustration Friday is Remember. Looking around my cubicle I notice numerous little yellow stickies. I write these "post-its" to myself to help remember the various tasks that I have or things Iwant to accomplish throughout the day. Phone numbers, passwords, and things to do lists with little checkboxs drawn next to each item...If you ask my wife I can't remember anything. I have more important things to remember than all the minutae that could clog my life...yeah! Now where are my car keys? Oh I remember!

Rhino-con

Here is my completed Rhino logo with basketball. I sketched it with pencil first. I than scanned my sketch and took it into Adobe Illustrator. I learned this variable line weight style from Keun. I think it really adds character to the Illustration. When I finished the Rhino...it seemed a little bare, so I added the basketball. What do you think? Go ahead add a comment...right there at the bottom of this paragraph...click it.

Bring your child to work day

Christopher came to work with me today, on "Bring your child to work day." I work at the Defense Information School, where I teach Joint Service members in the Basic Multimedia Illustration Course. We got there early and had breakfast. I introduced him to everyone, Senior Chief tried to get him to join the Navy. I showed him the different classrooms and the students Artwork. I was busy all day grading students projects. Chris played around on Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator practicing his skills. We went to lunch at the BX and did a little shopping. LT offered Chris a "summer Internship" to attend classes in Functional Area 1....I hope he takes advantage of this, it's a great opportunity...but who knows what his Mom wants him to do this summer. Overall we had a great day , and I was very proud to introduce him to my coworkers. I think he had fun too.

Rhino Sketch

My Friends have been calling me the Rhino for years. I earned the nickname on the basketball court after my friends noticed my one move of charging straight ahead to the hoop, head down, elbows swinging liberally. OK, so the Rhino is not known for his finesse...I knew they were teasing me. After awhile I started taking pride in my new totem. Rhino is slow, but strong and when they charge...people have to get out of the way. Rhino can be taken down...but its not easy. And the Rhino won't stop, Ever. Not overly intelligent it makes up for its lack of brain power with brawn and perseverance. I also noticed this nickname was appropriate for my aggressive poker style. A connoisseur of fine nicknames I recognize a good moniker when I hear it. I am Rhino!

The Grand Opening of Rhinosphere!

Martian polar ice cap on the horizon

This blog will be solely dedicated to my sketchs, illustrations, graphics, and art. I have been drawing, and working in graphics for over twenty years. I'm definately not the best, but I really enjoy the creative process. When I look at this portfolio...I can say I did that. Welcome to Rhinosphere! Where my dreams come alive!
