Sketching the world...my way.

Discovery of Illustration Friday has been very motivating for me. I look forward with anticipation to every topic and the amount of satisfaction I get from participating in this group is unmeasurable. I just wanted to say thanks to each and everyone of you, because you inspire me, to be a better Illustrator.
Tech Notes: I didn't do to much drawing on this piece...all Photoshop work.

My own private Hell, would be, playing poker for eternity and every hand would be Deuce-Seven. The worst hand in poker.
Tech Notes...I actually shot my hands with a digital camera to get this angle. I than sketched the assorted characters with pencil. I scanned that drawing and sketched it in Illustrator in full color. I did the background seperately and I liked it so much I decided to make the Poker Players monotone with the hell background behind them...It turned out ok, I like it.

My heaven is different than yours...There's no Angels, halos and harps. Everyone has their own vision of heaven. My heaven will have a little red Mustang and open skies, long curvy roads with no traffic.
addendum - I think I'm developing a style here...a friend of mine classified it as Car Caricatures. I sketched this little coupe at 0630 this morning...I finished it in an hour before work, and before my cup of coffee.

I rarely get air in my Mustang...but in my mind's eye, everyday is the "Dukes of Hazard" with potential jumps and crazy cops lurking around every corner. I got the Grey Ghost up to 120 mph the other day before I got "skert." Every time I punch the accelerator I feel the whole car TWIST from the torque like a beast pouncing on it prey. I need to slow down before I get twisted around a tree, if anything I'll save alot of money on gas...nah.

I did this piece for Monday Artday...However I never submitted it, because I ran out of time. I really was intrigued by the weekly Theme: Mystical, and watched everyone's submissions and was finally formulating something...when they switched the topic. Doh!
Night-time is always mystical for me. This is a shot of the moon with my digital camera, next to my garage. Glowing flowers was actually shot during the day. And the Mystical glowing fireflies were drawn in Photoshop.

I did this Illustration for Monday Artday...True Story, although the guys in suits were in a hotel lobby instead of the beach.
Went to Vietnam in January and everywhere I went I heard the hospitable cry of "Join Us!" I have never been one to turn down a free beer, so I did my best in strengthening diplomatic relationships between our countries. I would raise my beer over my head and shout the traditional Vietnamese toast Yo! Yo! It was tremendous fun and I was having a blast until I looked over and saw my impatient wife tapping her foot, arms crossed.

Man...I don't know what this is. I just decided to combine a few of my illustrations into one mega-uber-drawing. I guess you could call this mixed media? I don't know...its late. Here's the laundry list;

Citrus Redux is my first attempt at Macromedia Fireworks. And I drew this without a mouse, or tablet...just my finger on a laptop...which should explain the simplicity of the illo. I do like fireworks it is like a combination of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Haven't seen him since.

A good neighbor shovels snow for his neighbor. This weeks Illustration Friday topic was neighbor and all I could think about was how Old Man "Corrigan" shovels the sidewalk for everyone. He's a good neighbor. Good Neighbors are hard to find. I could really illustrate some bad neighbors... maybe I'll do another Illo!

Christopher came to work with me today, on "Bring your child to work day." I work at the Defense Information School, where I teach Joint Service members in the Basic Multimedia Illustration Course. We got there early and had breakfast. I introduced him to everyone, Senior Chief tried to get him to join the Navy. I showed him the different classrooms and the students Artwork. I was busy all day grading students projects. Chris played around on Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator practicing his skills. We went to lunch at the BX and did a little shopping. LT offered Chris a "summer Internship" to attend classes in Functional Area 1....I hope he takes advantage of this, it's a great opportunity...but who knows what his Mom wants him to do this summer. Overall we had a great day , and I was very proud to introduce him to my coworkers. I think he had fun too.

Martian polar ice cap on the horizon
This blog will be solely dedicated to my sketchs, illustrations, graphics, and art. I have been drawing, and working in graphics for over twenty years. I'm definately not the best, but I really enjoy the creative process. When I look at this portfolio...I can say I did that. Welcome to Rhinosphere! Where my dreams come alive!
